Blackwood Tourist Guide
Blackwood is situated between Ballan and Trentham 100 klms W.N.W of Melbourne in the heart of the Wombat State Forest on the Lerderderg River. It was once the site of a prosperous gold mining town in the 1850's. Now it is an area sort out by tourists and bush walkers.

Panning for gold - Gem Hunting - Trout Fishing. Horse Riding - Tennis - Swimming. Hiking on old water races. Scenic Drives. Historic sites and remains of old gold mines. Blackwood Cemetery - graves of early pioners and Chinese. Mineral Springs with 2 mineral waters available. Trail bikes and dirt bike riding, and 4 wheel drive tracks. Abundance of wildlife, wild flowers and plants. Golf at Ballan and Trentham.
